Colour Your Senses is a real-time, audio-responsive installation created specifically for Plymouth’s 20-metre projection dome. Presented in an equirectangular format, the work immerses audiences in a continuously evolving environment where light and sound move in concert—shifting, expanding, and dissolving across the curved expanse of the dome.
The piece begins with delicate, floating particles—colourful flecks of light that gently drift, collide, and disperse. These elements grow into a dynamic bioluminescent symphony, enveloping the viewer in an atmospheric play of motion and hue. The visuals—rendered in real-time—respond live to a custom spatial audio composition, allowing the dome to function as a living canvas, where sound generates light and movement in a fluid, synesthetic interplay.
As the experience unfolds, the particle choreography becomes increasingly layered and immersive, echoing natural phenomena such as plankton blooms, auroras, or celestial dust. The soundscape—mapped to the architecture of the dome—guides the tempo of the piece, with tonal shifts triggering changes in colour, intensity, and rhythm. Eventually, the intensity wanes, and the experience recedes into stillness, offering a tranquil conclusion.
Commissioned for Plymouth’s fulldome, Colour Your Senses explores sensory perception through abstraction—inviting audiences to lose orientation and immerse themselves in a meditative, audio-visual field where data, design, and emotion intertwine.
